My week in food

This weekend was full of great food experiences!

Friday I harvested our first Rhubarb from our one little plant that I actually had thrown away but it planted it self and are now in full bloom (btw does Rhubarb bloom?). I don´t complicate it to much when it comes to Rhubarb, I think a crumble is the best pie option here. I used this recipe for a small pie.

Healthy kids day and my week in food

This past Saturday I had a table at the "Healthy kids day" at our local YMCA in town. I had made a display about added sugar. It gets very clear when you see how many sugar cubes there are in different products. People get shocked to see the amount of hidden sugar that there children are eating. Also the fact that there are not room for much added sugar in the diet is an eyeopener.

On past Friday I spent the whole day at my daughters school. They had a community day and I as a dietitian talked about food and health. I showed them how much fruit and vegetables a kindergartner should eat per day (3 cups/day).

The best is on the weekends when you can sit and eat it for a long time and sip several cups of strong brewed English breakfast tea and read the newspaper. My daughter that is soon 6 years starts her day of telling me that she is not hungry and does not want anything to eat.

Weekly menu and kids menus

What a weekend! So much snow here in NJ after the storm and a snow day yesterday. I felt like a child again and we had so much fun. We enjoyed the weather and went sledding, building snow forts, just playing in the snow, drinking hot chocolate and not to forget shoveling our drive way multiple times. A good work out since the gym was closed the whole weekend.

Weekly menu of January of 18 th and Chia seeds

Yesterday we my children had the day off and we woke up to the first snow of the season, blue skies and sun. A perfect day off from school. We went sledding for a few hours with some friends and it was so much fun. Of course we had the mandatory hot chocolate with us which is always a hit. To the chocolate we had dark rye bread with Kalles kaviar (a fish roe spread) fast food as its finest.
